[Gbrooks-promo] Pandit Pran Nath Centennial Celebration and Raga Weekend Nov. 2, 3 and 4

I would like to let you all know about a very special event created to
celebrate the 100th birthday of my guru *Pandit Pran Nath*. Curated by
composer/pianist and Pandit Pran Nath disciple, *Terry Riley, *this weekend
of workshops, classes and camaraderie will take place at the *Camptonville
Community Center i*n the beautiful Sierra Foothills.

Participants are encouraged to spend the weekend with us, however, single
day tickets are also available.

*Friday Nov 2nd and Saturday Nov 3rd schedules:*
9:30 - raga fundamentals and riaz (morning practice) with Michael Stirling
11:00 - compositions from the Kirana tradition with RIk Masterson
12:30 - Indian vegetarian lunch (non dairy and gluten free options
available)
2pm - raga and tala in improvisation for both western instruments and
vocalists with George Brooks
4pm to 5:30 - master class with Terry Rile

All are encouraged to participate in all the sessions. Each of these
teachers has a unique offering and many years of experience in the practice
of khayal singing as taught by Pandit Pran Nath and his lineage in the
ancient Kirana tradition

*Sunday Nov 4th schedule:*
2pm - remembering Pandit Pran Nath with Terry Riley, students and friends
followed by a screening of In Between the Notes a documentary film about
the life, career and legacy of Pandit Pran Nath
*4 - 7pm - Centenary Celebration Concert (with intermission) featuring
Terry Riley, session teachers and others tba.*

I met and began my study of Hindustani music with Pandit Pran Nath in New
Delhi in 1980 (see below) while accompanying my wife, Emily Klion, on her
Watson fellowship trip India. It was also on this trip that I met and
became friends with Terry Riley. The seeds planted during that journey
continue to bear fruit and enrich my life to this day.
