I have spoken to them before about underwriting language violations and
would be happy to do so again.
Somebody send me the contact info and I'll do it.

Sounds like it's time for a group of stations him to send Hightower's
folks
a message letting them know he's putting his non-commercial stations at
risk. We here at KALW would sign on.

I would NEVER write a spot like that for our station.
Gah!
I don't even like the "usual" language, but what, if anything, can we
do?

Subject: [NFCB] Hightower underwriting language
Did anyone else notice the new Hightower underwriting today? The
language has probably been over the line already but today's new
underwriter for his book appears to be a clear violation of the rule
that they have to have "value neutral descriptions of a product line or
service."
Here's the language:
Usual underwriting:
This Jim Hightower common sense commentary is brought to you by the
Marajuana Policy Project Foundation. To learn more, visit
www.joinmpp.org or call toll-free 1-877-JOIN-MPP.
Today's new underwriting:
Today's commentary is underwritten by Wiley and Sons, publishers of
Hightower's uplifting and rebellious new book titled "Swim against the
Current: Even a Dead Fish Can Go with the Flow." Now available wherever
books are sold.
"Uplifting and rebellious" seems to be a clear violation. Is it legal
to imbed a call to action in a phone number or web address even if they
don't say "call" and "visit" before they give the phone number and
address?
Thanks,
Daniel Costello
