Dear LMi IMAP mail customer:
You are receiving this notice because you have an account on our IMAP
mail server, imap.lmi.net
We have been working for several months on an overhaul of our email
servers. These new servers are much faster, have complete redundancy,
and have a greatly improved webmail interface.
During the next few weeks, we will be migrating your IMAP mail over to
the new servers. Here's the good news: You don't have to do much! All
of the settings in your IMAP email client software can stay the same.
When your messages are moved over to the new server, however, they
will all be marked unread, so you will need to mark them read with
your mail client software. Also, the webmail address will be
different during this migration process. Once your mail has been
moved, you will get another message from us indicating this. At that
time, you can access your IMAP webmail at: https://
newwebmail.lmi.net. Once the transition has been completed, the old
URL (http://imap.lmi.net) will simply point to the new server, so you
can use that URL if you prefer.
The other caveat is that if your IMAP client is set to use "secure
authentication", that will no longer work. "Secure authentication" is
a method where only your password is encrypted before transmission.
Many email clients do not even offer this feature, and it is not
turned on by default on the ones that do. We support (and encourage)
SSL connections to our mail servers, where the entire email
transaction is secure. Virtually all modern email client software
supports SSL.
About our new Webmail software:
We have chosen SquirrelMail for our new Webmail interface. Now, from
within webmail you can:
-change your password
-setup your own vacation message
-create mail rules on the server (instead of in your email client
software)
-customize SpamAssassin settings
-and much more....
We think you will really like the new webmail!
