Dear Gardner Alumni,
The John Gardner Fellowship Association (JGFA) is actively
working to expand its alumni mentoring component and to put
alumni in touch with current Fellows to serve as resources
and sources of support. Many of our ideas take very little
time (e.g., a quick phone call to congratulate a newly
selected Fellow) but may nonetheless make an important
impact. We would appreciate it if you would please let us
know if you are interested in any of
the following:
1. Would you be interested in placing a congratulatory
call to a new Fellow?
2. Would you be interested in speaking at an orientation
or midyear meeting of the Fellows? We think this is
important to make connections and to provide advice to
Fellows. (The meetings tend to be in Washington, D.C., New
York, or the Bay Area, so we'll contact you based on
geography.)
3. Would you be able to host a Fellow during a site
placement visit? This is a great way to meet the Fellows
and to help lower costs for the program.
4. Would you be willing to act as a mentor to a Fellow?
This consists of occasionally checking in with the Fellow
over the course of the Fellowship, serving as a resource
and, hopefully, if geography permits, meeting for coffee or
lunch.
5. If you answered yes to the speaking or hosting
questions, what city do you live in?
Our goal is to assemble a list of interested people and
then, based on what comes up (and where), we'll contact you
to see if you have time to help.
Please respond to this address (Grant Harris --
grantharris at yahoo.com).
For planning purposes, we would greatly appreciate
receiving your response by March 31.
We greatly appreciate your interest in strengthening the
alumni outreach efforts!
Take care,
Grant
