Grantmakers Concerned with Immigrants and Refugees (GCIR) is a 
national membership
association of foundation staff and trustees interested in immigrant 
and refugee issues.
GCIR's mission is to move the philanthropic field to advance the 
contributions and
address the needs of the world's growing and increasingly diverse immigrant and
refugee populations.



With a core focus on the United States, GCIR provides grantmakers 
with opportunities to
connect with diverse colleagues, build new skills, increase 
knowledge, and become part
of a dynamic movement to fully integrate immigrants into U.S. 
society. GCIR's resources
include: (1) a one-stop center for high-quality print and Web-based 
publications and
other informational materials; (2) regional and national programming; 
and (3) training,
technical assistance, and consultation. In 2006, more than 1,500 
grantmakers took
advantage of our information resources and another 1,000 participated 
in our programs
throughout the country.

RESEARCH & PROGRAM ASSOCIATE

  The research & program associate plays a key role in helping GCIR 
keep foundations
informed of the latest immigrant-related issues and trends; how these 
concerns affect
newcomers and the broader society; and strategic roles that 
foundations can play to
support effective responses. Reporting to and working closely with 
the executive director,
this newly created, full-time position has the following areas of 
responsibility:

** Research and Writing (~70%):


o Produce our education, health, and general immigration e-newsletters.


o Develop new content-e.g., feature articles, issue analyses, policy
updates, and fact sheets-for our soon-to-be-revamped website.


o Serve as editor for New Americans, Perspectives, and other publications.


o Research and write reports and briefs on various immigrant integration
issues.


o Keep abreast of the latest research in the fields of immigration and
immigrant integration.


o Work with freelance writers, consultants, designers, and printers, serving as
the point person to them for most publication projects.


** Program (~20%):

o Write brochures and other materials to promote upcoming programs.

o Develop materials, e.g., issue overviews and fact sheets, for various
meetings.

o Assist the program director in organizing programs, e.g., confirming and
prepping speakers.


o Write summaries of key programs for distribution to the philanthropic
community.


o Represent GCIR at meetings and conferences as assigned.

** Grantwriting & Administration (~10%):


o Help prepare grant proposals, including background research and
writing.

o Write and submit grant reports.


o Assist in the preparation of board meeting materials.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, energetic, easygoing, 
curious, and
personable individual with a strong interest in immigration and 
social justice issues. S/he
will also have:

  ** Superlative writing and editing skills.


** Solid understanding of how to design and implement research 
projects including
the use of primary and secondary resources, data collection and analysis.

** General knowledge of immigrant and refugee issues and philanthropy.


** Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.


** Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills.


** Ability to work in a small, low-key office as part of a team.


** Ability to work productively in an environment where the pace changes
frequently and where multiple tasks and priorities must be managed.


** Ability to work independently and willingness to ask questions.


** Ability to effectively resolve problems and exercise informed judgment that
balances multiple needs, priorities, and interests.


** Willingness to travel about six times a year.


** Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; desktop 
publishing skills
a plus.






EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE



** Bachelor's degree in a related field from a four-year college or university;
master's degree preferred but not required.


** Minimum of three years' post-college work experience, including at least two
year of significant research and writing responsibilities.

Salary is commensurate with experience; generous benefits package, including
