Job Opening in the San Francisco Bay Area
The Pacific Firm is currently seeking a Director
of Institutional Giving for one of its clients.
Our client is a national, nonprofit, land
conservation organization that conserves land for
people to enjoy as parks, community gardens,
historic sites, rural lands, and other natural
places, ensuring livable communities for
generations to come. The Director of
Institutional Giving is responsible for the
design, coordination, implementation and
management of the organization's fundraising
programs targeted toward foundations and
corporations; responsible for developing and
meeting fundraising goals.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
-Research and identify foundation funding
opportunities for national and regional projects
and programs.
-Manage proposals, including communication and
coordination of foundation and national and
regional organization staff; write proposals and
direct the work of grant-writing contractors and
Development Associate; edit; circulate proposals
for review by appropriate staff; make submissions
and meet deadlines following-up to foundation
funders.
-Research and identify corporate funding
opportunities for national and regional projects
and programs. Work with national and regional
staff on formulation of strategy and proposals;
follow-up to corporate funders; solicit corporate
underwriting and/or in-kind donations.
-Coordinate foundation and corporate cultivation,
solicitation and acknowledgement activities with
appropriate national and regional staff.
-Track foundation and corporate funders'
reporting requirements; manage the reporting
process including meeting deadlines and working
with regional offices and national finance staff
to coordinate information.
-Work with staff and volunteers; identify
cause-related marketing opportunities.
-Implement, prepare and manage income and expense
budget for foundation and corporate giving
programs.
-Manage regional approval process for grant proposals and agreements.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES:
Other relevant duties as necessary.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required.
At least 4-5 years experience researching and
soliciting grants from foundations, including
grant writing.
Knowledge and expertise in nonprofit development;
experience working in a nonprofit development
office desirable.
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
excellent organizational skills.
Excellent social skills; ability to establish
professional relations with internal and external
development/communications staff.
Knowledgeable about foundation and corporate prospects.
High level of performance and creativity.

Job Opening in the Los Angeles Area
The Pacific Firm is currently seeking a Major
Gifts Officer for one of its clients. Our client
is a national, nonprofit, land conservation
organization that conserves land for people to
enjoy as parks, community gardens, historic
sites, rural lands, and other natural places,
ensuring livable communities for generations to
come. The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for
identifying, cultivating, researching,
soliciting, and stewarding potential and actual
major gift prospects including planned gifts.
Also trains, motivates and manages volunteer
leadership with regard to fundraising
responsibilities. Other responsibilities include
developing programs, projects, and activities
that bring new major donors to the organization,
working closely with project and marketing staffs
to develop these initiatives, and engaging and
training senior regional staff in managing and
soliciting current major donors. This position
reports to the Regional Director of Development
and is responsible for all designated major
donors, related campaigns and activities,
institutional funders, and volunteers.
Essential Functions:
50% Identifies new individual major donor
prospects and develops cultivation, solicitation
and stewardship plans to bring these donors into
the organization and to renew and increase giving.
30% Working with senior staff and volunteers,
coordinates the solicitation plans for existing
major donors including the establishment of donor
follow-up, stewardship, and involvement programs.
10% Manages development staff who are
responsible for writing and reporting on
foundation grants, engaging existing and new
donors in our activities, programs, and events,
implementing and maintaining donor
acknowledgement and gift tracking system, making
direct solicitations, and coordinating and
implementing a planned giving recognition program.
10% Works with project team leaders and other
department heads to coordinate and align
development activities with other regional
priorities and initiatives.
Expectations:
Personally responsible for developing written
solicitation plans for new and current major gift
donors and prospects managed by MGO
Complete 150-200 personal visits per year with donors and prospects.
Consistently and convincingly demonstrates to
colleagues and volunteers the role and importance
of charitable giving.
Qualifications:
Commitment to land conservation.
Bachelor's degree or equivalent is normally
required and a master's degree is preferred.
4-6 years of development related experience,
including making direct solicitations.
2 years of development management experience.
Excellent communications skills, including oral and written.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to exercise good judgment, take
initiative and make recommendations in resolving
problems and provide guidance to other staff.
Experience with PC, including word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Enthusiastic and good telephone skills.
Available for travel.
Knowledge of State funders highly desirable.
