THE FOUNDATION: The James Irvine Foundation is a 
private, nonprofit grantmaking foundation 
dedicated to expanding opportunity for the people 
of California to participate in a vibrant, 
inclusive, and successful society. The 
Foundation's grantmaking is organized around 
three program areas: Arts, Youth, and California 
Perspectives, which focuses on engaging new 
constituencies and infusing new ideas to improve 
public decision-making. With current assets of 
over $1.8 billion, the Foundation expects to make 
grants of $75 million in 2007 for the people of 
California.
POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Program 
Director for California Perspectives, the Program 
Associate provides administrative and 
program-related support to the California 
Perspectives program to facilitate the 
grantmaking and grants-monitoring processes and 
to support relationship-building in the field. As 
assigned by the Program Director, the Program 
Associate may be involved in arranging and 
attending meetings with potential grantees, site 
visits, preparing docket materials, and 
monitoring ongoing grants.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor's 
degree (preferably in public policy, public 
affairs, or political science), a minimum of two 
years related experience working in a foundation 
or nonprofit organization, and strong interest in 
state or local policy issues, or community 
engagement and mobilization efforts. Strong 
knowledge of MS Office software applications and 
experience with databases such as GIFTS desired. 
Superior administrative, organizational, time 
management, and communication skills are required.
