The Center for Community Change is a large national non-profit organization
headquartered in Washington, D.C. Our mission is to promote and develop
community organizing as a national force for social and economic justice.
Founded in 1968, the Center is known for our role in supporting the national
and grassroots coalitions that led to the creation of the food stamps
program, the enactment of the Community Reinvestment Act, the growth of
Community Development Corporations, large-scale preservation of low-income
housing and for leading efforts to secure a refundable child tax-credit and
restore food stamp eligibility for thousands of immigrant households. For

Position Description: The Program Associate will be part of the Leadership
Development Project and will assist with Generation Change, a new
initiative at the Center for Community Change. Generation Change is
devoted to recruiting, training, and supporting a new generation of
community organizers and non-profit leaders. The Program Associate will
work closely with the Leadership Development staff to launch a summer
internship and year-long fellowship program for individuals interested in
community organizing careers, maintain a national data base of organizing
and service learning opportunities, and develop systems to track and
support grassroots organizers and non-profit leaders throughout the U.S.
In addition, the Program Associate will assist in the development of new
online tools and media strategies to highlight and support recruitment,
training and employment opportunities for the community organizing sector
as a whole.
The ideal candidate has strong writing, computer and organizational skills
and a passion for engaging people from all walks of life in careers devoted
to social justice and community organizing. The candidate should be a
self-starter, capable of developing new systems, knowledgeable about
existing youth engagement programs in low-income communities and on college
campuses.
