team"

About the Jamestown Community Center
The mission of the Jamestown Community Center is to mobilize the
resources of families,
neighborhood residents, and other community members to help young
people realize their full
potential as empowered and productive members of society. Jamestown
fulfills this mission by
annually providing 500, low-income Mission District youth with a full
range of after-school and
summer programs designed to help them transition from children into
confident young adults.
Services include educational enrichment, academic tutoring, sports,
leadership, employment,
emotional support, and parent programs.

Unlike many organizations that serve large numbers of youth through
short-term programs,
Jamestown's strategy is to serve a core group of neighborhood youth
with multiple, high-impact
programs year after year as they grow. This focus on depth and
longevity has created a bond
between Jamestown and the youth and families it serves. As a result,
Jamestown is able to remain
continuously responsive to new and emerging needs of young people in
the community, and to
strengthen and expand its programs accordingly.

The Position
Jamestown is seeking an enthusiastic Development Director capable of
reaching fundraising goals in
support of a $1.1 million annual operating budget. Jamestown's
current funding sources are
approximately 65% private and corporate foundations, 25% city
government, and 10% individuals.
The Development Director will work under the supervision of the
Executive Director and will
manage all aspects of resource development. The Development Director
is also a member of
Jamestown's Leadership Team (senior staff), and will work
collaboratively with his/her colleagues to
ensure the effective operation of the organization.

Responsibilities
* Provide strategic direction and detailed management of Jamestown's
resource development
activities.
* Research and write all grant proposals to private foundations,
corporations, and government
agencies.
* Maintain relationships with Jamestown's funders, including
providing reports and other
requested information in a timely manner.
* Develop and implement Jamestown's annual appeal to individual donors.

* Develop and manage the production of Jamestown's twice-yearly newsletter.
* Work with the Executive Director to support the Jamestown
Council-the organization's
volunteer fundraising leadership corps-in organizing and implementing
an annual fundraising
event and other major donor activities.
* Represent Jamestown with funders and other community
constituencies, including speaking
passionately and knowledgeably about Jamestown's mission and programs.
* Maintain Jamestown's donor database, as well as other systems to
track existing and potential
sources of support.
* Actively participate in Leadership Team activities and other
organizational projects as needed.

Qualifications
* A passion for Jamestown's mission.
* Excellent grant-writing skills and demonstrated success securing
funding from foundations
and/or government agencies.
* Experience raising funds from individual donors and an interest in
growing Jamestown's
individual donor base.
* Ability to effectively communicate Jamestown's mission and programs
to external stakeholders,
both in writing and in person.
* Ability to work with a diverse array of individuals, including
staff, board members, donors,
volunteers, and the community.
* Ability to take initiative and a leadership role in the organization.
* An understanding of youth development theory and practice is
strongly preferred.
* Three to five years experience in development or similar work
required; B.A. preferred.
