*George Brooks,* one of the leading voices in Indian Jazz fusion and
*Alam Khan,* son of legendary musician, Ali Akbar Khan, unite with tabla
star *Salar Nader* to present an exhilarating meeting of musical minds and
spirits.  These visionary artists create new musical language through
innovative composition and virtuosic improvisation. They will perform
Brooks’ and Khan’s original compositions, contemporary settings of
traditional ragas and the premiere of Brooks’ *Ghalib: the Fire Beneath My
Feet,* inspired by the writings of 19th century Sufi poet, Mirza Ghalib.
*Ghalib *was commissioned by the San Francisco Friends of Chamber Music.



Saxophonist *George Brooks* has performed throughout the world with icons
ranging from Indian masters Zakir Hussain and Hariprasad Chaurasia: jazz
icons John McLaughlin and Larry Coryell, to minimalist godfather Terry
Riley and blues legend Etta James. He is the leader of global fusion
juggernauts Summit and Bombay Jazz.



*Alam Khan*, is setting a new standard for today’s generation of Indian
classical artists. He has performed as a solo artist throughout North
America and Europe and at India’s most esteemed festivals. Alam has
collaborated with the Grateful Dead’s Bob Weir, film maker Mira Nair and
performed on Derek Trucks Grammy-winning CD, Revelator.



*Salar Nader* was born in Germany, to Afghan parents forced to flee their
home during the Russian-Afghan war. He has evolved into one of the most
sought-after percussionists of his generation. Salar has performed with
distinctive classical artists from Afghanistan, Iran and India and has
collaborated with the Gypsy Kings, Niyaz and Derek Trucks. Salar was the
musical director for the stage adaptation of the Khaled Hosseini’s, Kite
Runner.
